In this exciting hands-on six week course, we will begin with an introduction to pen and ink illustration and its appearances and significance throughout history, from fine art to editorial, underground, and superhero comics. This will be followed up by an overview of the tools and materials used, and how to find the right ones to settle into your own personal style. The rest of the course will focus on illustration techniques, including: Linework, texture and gradation, page layout, depth and lighting, visual storytelling, life drawing and the human figure, and using the inherent limitations of the medium to your advantage, all supplemented with in-class and take-home exercises. Pen and ink illustration is a craft with limitless creative possibilities, and all you need to start is pen and paper, so let's get drawing!
