This course is a comprehensive introduction to black and white photography through manual film processing and darkroom printing.
We will learn all the fundamentals of using a 35mm Single Lens Reflex (SLR) camera from operating the aperture and shutter speed to learning basic lighting techniques. Classes will involve studio time where you will learn about the equipment, darkroom procedures, etiquette and techniques.
Slideshow lectures and films will expose you to contemporary and historical artists who exemplify creative and groundbreaking approaches to B&W Photography. During our critiques, there will be an emphasis on the final print quality and the ability to think and speak critically about your work and the work of others.
The goal of the course is to provide a strong technical and conceptual foundation in B&W Photography. This is a comprehensive, college level intro course.
