ALCHEMY ART CENTER YOUTH MENTORSHIP PROGRAM, 2020
Alchemy Art Center, in partnership with the San Juan County Arts Council, is offering a mentorship opportunity for young people who are interested in the arts. The mentorship program will match two high school students with one adult artist in each department at Alchemy (ceramics, photography, and printmaking/painting/drawing). This program will take place over the course of 8 weeks, beginning in mid February and culminating in an exhibition of the students’ work on April 10th.
This arts focused mentoring opportunity is a collaborative project between Alchemy Art Center and the San Juan County Arts Council. Our goal is to foster mentoring relationships between adult and youth artists in our community.
The adult in each department will work with their young people to help them to develop art pieces to display in a final exhibition. The mentor and mentee will work collaboratively to find out what the young person is most interested in creating. Mentors will support their young people to hone specific skills, explore mediums, and ultimately generate finished pieces for display in the community.
This 8-week program will take place on Thursdays after school, from 3:45-6:00pm, beginning February 13th and ending April 2nd. The final show will be on April 10th, and will require additional coordinated time between youth and mentors to install and set up.
Students will be able to ride to Alchemy on the school bus on Mentorship days, but must have transportation home.
This program is free of charge. Applicants will be interviewed before final decisions are made.
